Cooperation with Azerbaijan

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on April 4, 1992. On October 12, 1992, Azerbaijani President Abulfaz Elchibey paid his first official visit to Russia

The visit resulted in signing the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Security between the two countries. In recent years, the Presidents of the two countries have repeatedly exchanged working visits.

The founding document of the legal framework for bilateral relations is the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Security between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan signed on July 3, 1997.

Bilateral military and military-technical cooperation between the countries is regulated by more than 40 treaties and agreements, the main of which is the Intergovernmental Agreement on Military-Technical Cooperation signed by the heads of military departments of the two countries in Baku in 2003.
