Cooperation with Kazakhstan

Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on October 22, 1992.

Kazakhstan was the first CIS state to sign the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance with Russia on May 25, 1992.

Another basic document essential for bilateral relations of the two countries is the Declaration on Eternal Friendship and Alliance signed in July 1998 during Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s working visit to Moscow.

Russia and Kazakhstan collaborate within the framework of the CIS, CSTO, Eurasian Economic Community, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Central Asian Cooperation Organization and in the process of forming the Single Economic Area.

On June 9-10, 2004, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid an official visit to Astana.

A bilateral commission on military-technical cooperation, established under the same agreement, has been functioning since 2001.

Kazakhstan and Russia are active participants in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) established in 2003.

Today Kazakhstan uses a significant number of Soviet-made weapons and military equipment, with Rosoboronexport successfully modernizing this equipment.

Rosoboronexport is a regular exhibitor at the KADEX International Exhibition of Armaments and Military Equipment held in Astana.

Rostec State Corporation has a representative office in Kazakhstan that ensures Rosoboronexport's interests.
